Chapter 1 Completed
Well that kicked off the start of something interesting.
I like how the prologue showed us something that us the audience could understand, Alice in Wonderland. The whole point of that book was a girl being trapped in another place. But it took that concept and was like, well what if it happened in other stories, like it was always meant to happen. So after this Alice, there is another Alice, and another. (ever watched Alice Human Sacrifice?)
Then we get I guess hints as too who the other book characters are. The Dancing Shoes girl, Wicked Witch who lost her name (damn you are dumb for selling that). Jack who could be like 12 thousand different Jacks. But they are all able to be out in the mundane world as well as magical, that is important distinction. Do they come from the magical lands, or is it closed off to them as well?
I love how so far, the only thing colorful is the magical portions. When Alice came back, and the magical fire. That’s why I said Wizard of Oz so soon, because the world was black and white until Dorothy was brought in to Oz.
Emma and Elaine are cool. I can really tell that they are sisters, so it is nice to see their sibling bond be so natural. And Ben will be a good friend/caretaker, especially with Emma out of the picture. Wasn’t much time spent with the other side characters like 46 and Jack, outside of the murder, but they do set up the bigger picture oh so nicely.
On my Fibonacci Scale of 1 to 21: it gets an 8. I like the concept of being forced into a path based on your name, and chroniclers who write down the stories. The chapter had as low start, but really showed the type of people our main cast is before getting to any of the heavy plot stuff, as well as throw in a lot of references/hints as to what kind of stories will be seen in this series. Will definitely save this series for later.
