So Gamzee destroys rage by basically being so chill all the time offering pie and being mellow (how he calms Karkat down). And gets possessed through rage to fuck shit up (blasphemy of his religion, Cal possessing him).

So basically, you can argue that Gamzee wasn’t in control of his rage-induced state, but Eridan was.
