So the plot is of this is - Darkness is finally victorious and is about to take over, but in order to stop complete destruction of everything 4 heroes (players) need to kill them to end everything.

Such a video game plot, but that makes sense. Evil needs to be on the rise somehow for the 4 heroes to emerge.
